Voices of Regeneration

Joshua Milligan
American

Joshua aspires to design and co-create syntropic agroforestry systems within ecovillages, merging the worlds of food forestry, animal husbandry, mycology, herbalism, compassionate pest management and intentional community. He received two certificates in permaculture design and application. He loves to play guitar, write poetry, travel, take photos, make yummy meals from his garden and explore different healing modalities and organic alternatives to many modern products and practices. Joshua is constantly designing and inventing novel yet ancient ways we can interact harmoniously with our ecosystems and communities, such as ‘bamboo pots’, which could be used to grow mushrooms, as well.

Bamboo Pots

This poem “Bamboo Pots” seems to have written itself as I just sat outside with the trees. It gives me goosebumps as I re-read it, knowing that these words came from an intelligence much greater than my brain. It paradoxically evokes piercing questions yet balances them with soothing imagery, creating a stimulating yet reassuring experience for the reader. Regeneration = healing, and I think this poem has the capacity to heal the reader and the environment.

Planting seeds, as referred to in “Bamboo Pots”, is not only about the planting of physical seeds, but also the planting of idea seeds, which can grow and blossom just the same. Through planting these seeds, I hope fertility, abundance, health and protection will bloom in your life and further. This poem captures the etheric beauty of regeneration just as much as it does the practical parameters that make it real. The directness of calling out oil, greed, money, power, fame and destruction is quite intentional, as is celebrating community, food, love, comradery and the bliss of simply being alive. It’s important to me that others feel not only dreamy about regeneration but empowered to bring it into their lives in real, meaningful ways.
