Voices of Regeneration

Letizia Artioli
Italian

Letizia Artioli, artist and researcher based between Venice and Den Haag, always below sea level. Working on: Data Turbulences, Flooding Voids and Weathering Spaces. Investigating the relationship between human beings and environmental data as a matter for research and creation, entangling archives of dichotomies between immaterial matter, data spatialisation and climate change emergencies. In her projects, media are liquid memories and unexpected instruments for liminal ecologies literacy. She is MArtScience at KABK (NL) and PhD candidate at IUAV University (IT). Previous exhibitions include: ISEA International Symposium of Electronic Art, Ars Electronica, The Grey Space in The Middle, Milan Design Week 22-23-24, Laguna Festival, ArsElectronicaGarden NY, MMMAD. Founder of the Venice Climate Change Pavilion project (EU4Ocean Award for Arts&Culture Relating to the Ocean 2022) and part of Youth4Ocean Forum and EU4Ocean Platform.

You Are a Butterfly Until You Don’t Flap Your Wings

“You are a Butterfly until you don't flap your wings” echoes how, in chaos theory, the smallest interaction (a butterfly flapping it wings) can echo and reverberate in bigger turbulences (i.e. causing a tornado). Within this sonic landscape, made of the field recordings of lost landscapes, while listening, just by breathing you are composing a third new landscape out of ghosts, echoes of lost ecosystems, and our continuous exchange of particles with the world.

We are spectators of present ruins/future ghosts and composers of present ghosts/future ruins. The process of entangling the human identity by composing a sonic constant symphony of attunement is the initial wing-flap that implies echoing within the awareness of a belonging to complex adaptive system that transcends the sole human being (ego-tistical) scale in favour of a eco-systemic one. The shift from BEING in the weather to be a weather being. This composition aims to be a sonic act of de-territorialisation, a way of embedding the sparkle of regeneration by putting back to the initial conditions of turbulence matters such as: volumes and voids, bodies (as citizens and specimens), waves, ideas and dreams.
